PICO-8 Game Genres

Video Game Genres are a very difficult thing to nail down because they are a part of language that attempts to neatly organize art into boxes. It will always fail at doing that because the art, in this case Video Games, will always adapt and evolve by mixing and matching pieces from multiple boxes or even jumping between boxes.

So we like to think of these Genres less of a categorization and more of general descriptors where more than one can be applied to a single game. This way, you will know what type of gameplay you can expect from the game that is listed and searchable by genre on this site at least.
